Makeup brushes play an important role in giving an even and finished look in the whole makeup process. Makeup brushes come in different shapes and sizes with different purposes, such as blending brushes, powder brushes, contour brushes, and eye shadow brushes.

Three methods to clean the makeup brushes:

Method 1 – Products to clean makeup brushes: Glass Jar, Warm water, Dish wash gel, Distilled white vinegar

• Take a glass container, choose the size of container according to your need like how many brushes you want to clean in one slot, so size of the jar may vary individually. 

• Put some warm water into the jar so that all your make up brush can be submerged into it , but be cautious about the handle of your brush, you should not dip complete brush into the water as it can damage the handle of your makeup brush, so try to dip only the bristles part into the water.

• Add One teaspoon of Dish wash gel, while you can customize the amount as per your need, then mix a teaspoon of white vinegar into the mixture of water and soap. 

• Once the mixture is ready , dip all your makeup brushes into it. Keep it aside for a few minutes then clean it gently using your hand or using any comb like brush to clean it effectively. 

• Once the cleaning is done, rinse it with fresh cold water, and dry it overnight on a cotton towel or cloth or any paper towel. Once the brushes are completely dry , you can again use it for your makeup. 

• Remember, investing once in a high quality makeup brush is worthy than investing multiple times in buying new ones, it not only waste money but also affects your skin. 

Method 2 – Products to clean makeup brushes: Extra virgin olive oil, Dishwash gel

• Extra virgin olive oil has lots of antioxidants and vitamin E. It has no taste and is completely safe for your skin, it doesn’t cause any irritation if any residue is left somewhere. So I prefer to use extra virgin olive oil for cleaning my makeup brushes. 

• Here you need to take a glass jar depending on the need like how big or small the jar you need to clean up your makeup brushes. 

• Put some warm water into the jar, then Add one or two spoons of dish wash gel into it. After you have prepared the mixture. Dip all your makeup brushes that you want to clean into the solution, but keep your makeup brush handle separated from the water. 

• Keep the brushes into the solution for some time approx 20 to 30 mins. Then rub it softly using your hand. Once you feel that it is clean enough to rinse , take it out one by one and wash it with tape water. 

• You can also use a comb brush to clean it thoroughly while doing it and then let it dry overnight or a complete day. When the brushes are completely dry , you can use it, also you will notice the change in color of your brushes as it will look so new and soft to use. 

Method 3 – Products to clean makeup brushes: Shampoo, Some apple cider vinegar

• Mix one or two tablespoons of any gentle shampoo or baby shampoo with some apple cider vinegar and the required amount of warm water in a glass jar. 

• Dip the makeup brushes in that water mixture for about 20 minutes. Gently rub the brushes with your fingers or use an electric cleaner which you can buy online from amazon or any other site that you may prefer. 

• Once the brushes seem light and clean , then remove it from the jar and wash it properly in the normal water , prefer to use tape water or wash it in your kitchen sink so that all the residue that is left will be washed away and your makeup brushes will be cleaned effectively. 

• Let it dry overnight, once the brushes are all dry then you can use it again for the same purpose.

• Cleaning your brush from time to time gives your makeup brushes a long life and also it provides you a smooth and finished look while doing makeup. It is very essential to keep it clean to maintain hygiene.

How often should you clean your makeup brushes?

According to the American academy of dermatology association, we should clean our makeup brushes every week(every 6 or 7 days), to prevent our skin from getting damaged, due to bacteria or fungus that keeps growing in the brush due to makeup residue which stays in it for so long.
